Went up hayling on a whim yesterday with my mate joe, Had no luck catchin mackrel this year. Well when we got there they were all jumping around in the surf, we feathered for about 2 hours and had easily 150+ mackrel. They were chasing the whitebait around.
Joe may well have lost a decent bass, while he was retrieving the feathers the rod bent over and his line snapped.
Could of had more mackie they were still goin when we left but there was no room left in the freezer!!!
Someone was fishing with a ledger and live joey and had 2 nice bass so goin back up today to try and get some bass.
Tight lines
PM if you want location "not telling the commercial fisherman"
Some ugly mug shots for you - I may have got a bit sunburnt ha!

| Yeh we might eat a few but will save a fortune on bait, plus the small mackrel are killer bait for bass whole |

| Bit wasteful isn't it catching that many? Why not just catch a dozen and then go back to proper fishing? |

There are some there no bigger than your hand in the photo. Could these not have been returned? |

Hello lads, I was the one with the Bass last night. Will try and post the pictures when I get them off my Dad.
Did you see the seal just after I spoke to you?
Looks like you will have plenty of bait for a while, hope you have a big freezer. |

| There were tons of mackeral down there last night. I used a spinner on light gear - great fun! I stopped at 5 fish (for the table) threw a few joeys back. 150 seems overkill to me. |

If you had plugged for bass you would have caught 4lb plus bass.
Friend had 3-4 good sized bass on plugs and chug bugs. |

| I was under the impression that the minimum limit for shore caught mackerel was 30cm / 12". From the photo there are many there that look way undersize and should have been returned. |

I still haven't nipped down to Hayling to give the wedges a good workout - hopefully the weather and work will be in my favour next week....

Just out of curiosity,if the NFSA have size limits in place which i believe to be enforcable, how can different coasts have differing sizes?
As for the mackeral in the photo, looks like they don`t even meet the said 20cms/7.9ins
Please enlighten,cheers Darren |

you have to be very careful when returning mackerel,if you handle them with bare hands you will have damaged the fish and released to die slowly over the next 24-48hrs,so please if returning handle with a damp cloth |

Unfortunately many new people to the sport have no idea of size limits
Throughout the UK on a daily basis there must be hundreds of people catching undersize fish and keeping them with no idea that there are size limits. I have personally seen it so many times over the years.
cheers
