Hi all went fishing down Mount Wise last night. Both me and my mate put one rod on the bottom and were feathering on the other. All we caught was one mackerel between us. Has anyone managed to catch much on the Tamar lately as i'm looking at having a go under the Tamar bridge and wondered what is about there as I usually fish from Elphinstone Pier near the Barbican...Colin |

Hi, was down by Devil's Point Monday evening, wasn't fishing myself just walking with dogs. Spoke to 3 people who were fishing and none had caught anything.
Two had apparently tried lures and feathers whilst the third was bottom fishing.
Not sure why it seems to be a bit fish free at the moment can only imagine the increased activity with Ships/subs is having an effect. |

BIG TIDES ARE WHAT YOU WANT THIS TIME OFF YEAR AS THATS WHAT BRINGS THE MACCIES AND BASS THROUGH AS THEY GO ON A FEEDING FRENZY THEN ALSO THE AMOUNT OF RAIN AND COLOUR OF WATER DOES NOT HELP GOING TO MY BASS SPOT STRAIGHT FROM WORK TOMMORROW SO LET YOU KNOW!!! |

The bigger tides make it hard to fish mate! neap tides are best for fishing as you can acutally keep your gear on the bottom. Fishing there is always about how many hours you can put into it. at the minute the congering down there is brillant. problem is i know so many spots that are fishing well that i cant decide where to go! |

using prawn and crab you might get a thornie, there might be a few conger eels on mackerel |

I used to fish the Tamar a lot but only from the shore. Didn't really have much luck up by the Bridges. Mainly fished down on the point on the corner of the Tamar where it meets the Lynher on a low tide. Some days nothing, some were good. Plenty of schoolie bass and the occasional thornie. Sometimes the odd plaice if you can hit the sandy mud mixture. Can only fish there about 2 hours either side of low water, then i used to move back up to wearde quay with any remaining bait. It is quite snaggy in both spots but a pulley rig should do the trick. Ragworm can be dug and peelers found around the rocks and beach at low tide for bait, i would reccomend them both. Wearde can throw up a right mixed bag according to season, but i have had bass, pollock, mackerel, garfish, plaice, flounder, codling, pout, whiting, annoying eels and also a weever fish! Nothing massive on the whole but can be quite entertaining when they are biting. Hope this is of some use to you, Mike Roberts. |

The tamar at point like devils point and mountwise are proving hard for bass and mackerel recently, i agree this may have something to do with the weather, but pollock have bin in great supply i have bin on float at both devils and mountwise wich is a nightmare with the tides but have had a few pollock each time i have been. Wrasse seem to be in great number everywhere i have fished recently along the tamar, devils, mountwise, the floating pontoon by the steam packet pub. Conga also have been cought at devils recently on mackie but havent had much luck with bottom fishing myself, just a few lost lines whilst nightfishing mountwise, if i had a landing net with me i would have had a fair few nice size fish as lines have snapped once fish has left the water. |

Thanks for the welcome. Being a navy lad, dont get a great deal of time for fishing so when im in plymouth its normally walking distances or a cheap taxi, so mountwise, pontoon, devils are key to me. But i have fished west hoe and i often get the water taxi and fish from mount batton pier for wrasse and pollock, but sizes havent been as large as promised. I quite like where i've bin fishing so far, although i dont go much on the pontoon, but there is a pub right there so........ |

I take it you are talking about the Steam Packet Illustrious. It used to be a really "nice" pub when I used to deliver my papers round that area bout 12 years ago. Am going for an all-day fishing session if the weather is not to bad on bank-holiday monday at Elphinstone Pier. You are more than welcome to come and join me if you like.....Colin |
