My wife likes to come fishing with me. Unfortunately, she finds my rod (a 12' graphite Abu Garcia Revolution beachcaster combo) too heavy to cast with (she's an 8 stone weakling).

Can anyone recommend a lightweight rod and/or reel, suitable for piers and a little light beach fishing, which might be suitable ? I was thinking of aome sort of 'bass' rod maybe?

Thanks in advance,

Q

I have a Fox Impressa Plug and Spin which cost £37.50.

9'6'', very light, casts 3 oz and works superbly with a small Shimano baitrunner.

It won't have your missus casting 200 yards but I guess she won't do that with any rod - I can't! crying crying

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll check those out.

I wasn't planning to spend more than £50 or so (unless she promises to let me borrow the rod sometimes!).

Anyone know an ultra-light fixed spool reel? The reel usually weighs much more than the rod!

try a bass rod - the zziplex ptx bass is quite good by all accounts.

I would go for the Shakespeare Salt Spin - light as a feather 10 ft long and just over £40 - dam good price for a carbon rod with Fuji's my mate got one for his daughter and he uses it more than she does now.

Thank you, one and all, for your suggestions.

I think the Shakespeare sounds like a good'n. Her dad uses Shimano gear back home though and she does like Japanese brands.

I shall see if my local chap stocks either one. She says she doesn't want one off eBay!

As for the reel, try the Okuma Silvara range - you can get them from about 12 quid.
