Mono. I love braid but on a multiplier it can be a nightmare. After saying that I do use it on some of my multipliers. I use it on all my boat reels and on my fixed spools. I use Ron Thompson Cable Braid 80lb right through with no shockleader. The purists will no doubt disagree with me but I fish to suit myself and not other folk. Hope this helps, keith |

Oh dear another purist. If you look at my first reply right at the begining I did say braid could be a nightmare.
I have had so many debates about this, not arguements but genuine debates, but the same subject keeps reoccurring.
1. I dont cast over other folk.
2. I dont use a thumb stall.
3 I have never blown up a reel in 50years of sea fishing.
4. Ill give you one point for the top ring but I can and always have replaced mine whenever I have needed to for about £4.
Cheers keith |

my view on braid is 50/50 yes its got beneits but on a muilty id say no mainly as if the braid cuts into the spool as keith said major nightmares but another thing is i aint been a fishermen for 50 years ( i would of been 19 years from being born lol anyway on fixed spool its great and also boat fishing it's great but everyone has there opinon and thats what the forums are for !!! il stick to mono .

This is what the forum is all about, although I use braid I still use mono as do the majority of anglers. What I ment when I was refering to purists , is that I cast some of the time using a boat reel. Ok I know its unconventional and Im not trying to convert others to my way of fishing. As a few members know I use a okuma boat reel for the majority of my shore work and hit a reasonable distance. In my day the top beachcasting reel was the old ABU 7,000 but it has now been classed as a light boat reel.
The new ABU 7500C3 is a gem and can be used for shore and boat work.
I would like to make it plain that I wasnt trying to prove anyone wrong just the fact that Im out of step with others. I also like to be different. keith |
