well i used to use the fixed spool shakespear mg-1000 beachcaster 3.06meter 4-6oz weight with mg-100 reel, the tip is very whippy and bends very easly but i'm on stiffer rods now, is a good rod and has lasted a fair few years and is still in working condition altho it has had to have an eye replaced as my bikeing trips took its toll on it

| I have one of the Shakespeare Salt Long Surf jobs 13 ft version mate, I think they do one a bit longer too. Seems fairly sloppy to me and has good bite detection and casts quite well. Only slight draw back is that they seem to have covered the joints with chrome instead of stainless or plastic so they are showing slight signs of rusting after 4 months use. I guess I will have to cut them off at some point and replace with plastic or brass but other than that they are great rods for the price. |

| Have you tried any 3-4 oz bass rods rab ,if the big rods and 6 oz weights don`t do your back any good it might pay to use lighter gear not just a softer rod. I use a carp rod (sheakespeare onset ) whenever possible and it is much nicer to cast and retrieve the occasional fish with than most proper beachcasters and a big plus is the lead bag is half the weight it normally is. Picking the good weather to fish with the light gear is the solution, or so i keep telling myself when getting a rainy force eight in the face. I should have learned by now..! |
