Hi All,

I purchased a 'first' multiplier a couple of weeks back which was an Okuma Magnatec 30. First day out I took it out of the box and down to the beach for a practise. Many 'nests' later and new line loaded It still didnt seem to cast correctly and I always had to have my thumb significantly feathering the line out even on the strongest magnet settings. Anyway, I put it away for a week and watched a couple of the guys using them (no thumb pressure required). Theres seemed to screem as they casted them out and I wondered why mine didnt make that noise. So I went back to the shop and they told me to adjust the spool so it was the correct tension. I did this and also realised by turning on the ratchet (clicking thing) my reel made that noise and it was very easy to cast quite great distances. I can now use it with the magnets turned off and just the ratchet turned on.

My question is, is it ok to do this and is this how it is meant to be as I have read in a book that you should turn the clicker\ratchet off when casting... Any help greatly appreciated.

Ta.

J

Ok lets start from the begining. Fist of all its no ok to cast with the ratchet on as this will eventually wear out the ratchet. Second there is a gold coloured knob under the star drag that is knurled, tighten this not dead tight but enough so that when you let your weight drop to the floor there is only a slight overun keep tightening the knob until you achieve this. During this make sure that the magnets are off. Then put you magnets full on and cast. Dont feather your spool but stop it dead when you see the weight hit the water. Eventually you will be able to decrease the magnet setting until you get a slight overun. Hope this helps my mate. Cheers Keith

that is a nice bit of info there rabbi2, will have to tinker with mine so it doesn't run to fast for me as it has been doing but not been really bad yet.
