I would sugest a proper conversion kit rather tha removing the levelwind with a hacksaw as this would only serve to weaken the reel cage.

I used to own a Supercast mark 1 (Paul Kerry) and I regretted selling it ever since. The updated version although a superb rod, came nowhere near the quality of the original.

All new parts to be fitted but some bolts shear off when trying to undo them so they have to be drilled and it makes the job longer.
