I have never known Mackerel to be caught that month of the year in my area which is just up the road from Bournemouth

I have fished chesil many times over the years in force 6 gales!
Its not been what you would call dangerous but just far more difficult to actually fish.

Hello Dave, this time of year the fishing can be very poor down at the quay.
The best time of year is generally August, September time when you get a chance of a double figure Bass!

Float fishing works very well along with the small hooks as tomcat suggested, Garfish feed close to the surface so make your float trace within just 2 to 4 ft maximum in length.
